i have now discovered the wonders traveling brings into someone's life. going to camotes (about 100 kilometers away from cebu city) with a few of my colleagues is one of the things i would never trade for anything else ever!
camotes is a small island with white sand that is very very comparable to boracay minus the tons of people and bars. it is somewhat still underdeveloped which makes it a more interesting place because most of the sceneries that you will see are 100% untouched.
to reach camotes, take a cab or a minivan in cebu city and tell the driver to take you to danao port. ferry boat to camotes costs 200php and takes almost two hours. once you're there, you will be greeted by the locales who are hands down one of the nicest people you will ever meet. vans/cars of several resorts are already lined up so make sure to do your homework on where to stay before traveling. i strongly recommend you not to stay in your hotel throughout your stay and ask your hotel frontdesk on the island's ideal spots. to go around the place, the common transpo is known as "habal-habal" which is kind of a motorcycle taxi. you can even ask the driver to pick you up at your desired time for no more than 50 bucks.
food is of course delectable and cheap. we are 6 very hungry tigers and our one full day meal consumption cost us 3,000php! our bfast, lunch and dinner includes crispy pata, really big fish (fish costs 100php and is good for two), pork belly, chopsuey, lots of sisig, 2 cases of beer, more than 10 liters of sprite, about 10 platters of rice, pizza, cheesesticks, etc.
i went home gaining more than 5lbs. i think. =)
overall it was a remarkable place and a nice means to get away with stress from work!
a must-visit for travelers. =)
